Noida: Two people lost their lives after a fire broke out in a residential G+4 building in Noida’s Sector 66 on Wednesday. According to police, the blaze began on the ground floor when sparks were generated while an electric vehicle battery was being charged. The sparks allegedly spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles, causing the fire to intensify.

Following the incident, seven fire tenders, a hydraulic platform, the Chief Fire Officer, and local police teams reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation. The fire was later brought under control.
The building was home to nearly 50 families, all of whom were safely evacuated. Eyewitness Arnav Singh said an electric scooter was being charged when a short circuit started the fire. He said residents had to escape before emergency teams arrived.
“We were upstairs and had to flee as the police had not arrived yet, and there was no other way out. Since the building was under construction, staircases were available. A ladder was positioned from above, allowing around 150 to 200 people to climb across and escape,” Singh said.
Police said a man and a woman died after suffering from smoke inhalation. An FIR has been registered against the building owner or leaseholder, who has been taken into custody. Further legal action is underway.
