In a heartbreaking incident, two young women from Telangana—24-year-olds Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana—lost their lives in a road accident in California. The two close friends, who were living together while searching for job opportunities in the US, were returning from a short trip with friends when the crash occurred.
Both women hailed from Garla Mandal in Mahabubabad district and had recently completed their Master’s degrees. Meghana, affectionately called Chikki, had moved to the US only a short while ago. Her father, Nageshwara Rao, operates a Mee-Seva centre back home, while Bhavana’s father serves as the Deputy Sarpanch of Mulkanoor village.
The sudden tragedy has plunged their families and community into deep grief. According to family sources, the two women shared a strong bond and had been supporting each other as they settled into life abroad.
Authorities in the US have begun investigating the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the families are working to bring their daughters’ mortal remains back to India. A fundraising campaign has also been launched to help with the repatriation costs.
A note on the GoFundMe page reads, “Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us give my sister a dignified farewell.”
