Date:

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education, on Wednesday announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination in a bid to uphold transparency and integrity in the examination process. The examination was held June 18 in two shifts across different cities of the country.

The decision follows concerns raised about the conduct of the examination, prompting the Ministry to initiate a fresh examination at a later date. Additionally, citing the seriousness of the matter, the Ministry has referred the issue to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive investigation.

Further details regarding the rescheduled examination will be communicated separately by the authorities.

The exam was attended by 81 per cent of over 11.21 lakh registered candidates for the exam in 317 cities across the country, said UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.

UGC-NET is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ as well as ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC-NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

This development unfolds amidst heightened controversy and protests surrounding the national eligibility-cum-entrance test (undergraduate) 2024. Tensions escalated after 1,563 candidates were granted grace marks, with an additional 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720, raising significant concerns about the integrity of the examination process.
