The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest against the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Delhi on August 17, demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in the 2026 UGC-NET examination. Clashes were also reported between protesters and security personnel.
The protest followed the NTA’s decision to cancel and re-conduct the English, Commerce and Sociology papers after a committee found factual, typographical, grammatical and translation errors, along with repeated questions from previous exams.
NSUI alleged that students were being punished for the agency’s mistakes and questioned whether the papers had been leaked before the examination.
The organisation also demanded accountability within the NTA.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was held from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects for eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor posts and PhD admissions.
The fresh examinations will be held on September 9 and 10. English and Commerce will be conducted on September 9 in the first and second shifts, while Sociology will be held on September 10 in the first shift. Candidates will appear again without additional examination fees.
