India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is currently experiencing a major outage, with numerous users reporting problems with payments and fund transfers, as per Downdetector.
Complaints spiked dramatically on Wednesday evening, with over 2,300 incidents recorded after 7:00 PM. Many users turned to social media, expressing frustration that digital payment services like Google Pay and PhonePe were not working and wondering if they were the only ones facing these issues.
There were 119 complaints about the Paytm app and 376 related to the State Bank of India (SBI) platform, with most SBI users reporting disruptions in fund transfers and online banking services.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “For the first time in my life, I’ve experienced UPI downtime. Not banks or gateways, but @UPI_NPCI itself, while uptime was 100% in February.”
Another user posted, “What is this nonsense? UPI isn’t working. My money was debited but not credited to my friend’s account @UPI_NPCI.”
