The South film industry bid an emotional farewell to veteran producer RB Choudary, who passed away in a tragic road accident in Rajasthan on May 5, 2026. His final rites were held in Chennai on Wednesday, where several leading stars from the Tamil film fraternity gathered to pay their last respects.
Among those present was actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, whose emotional presence at the funeral drew widespread attention online. Videos circulating on social media showed Vijay arriving at RB Choudary’s residence amid tight security and appearing visibly shaken while paying tribute to the late producer.
The actor placed a floral garland on the glass casket carrying RB Choudary’s mortal remains before offering prayers. In one of the emotional moments captured at the funeral, Vijay was seen consoling actor Jiiva, who broke down while mourning the loss of his father.
Despite his recent political engagements following TVK’s performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay made time to personally visit the bereaved family and extend condolences.
Several prominent celebrities from the South Indian film industry also attended the funeral, including Mammootty, Dhanush, Suriya, Karthi, Vikram and Siddharth, among others. The atmosphere remained sombre as members of the film fraternity gathered to honour the legacy of the veteran filmmaker.
RB Choudary, founder of Super Good Films, was one of the most influential producers in South Indian cinema and had backed several successful films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi languages during his illustrious career.
According to reports, the 76-year-old producer died in a fatal road accident near Joontha village in Rajasthan’s Bewar district. He was reportedly returning from a relative’s wedding ceremony along with his nephew when their vehicle lost control after cattle suddenly strayed onto the road. The car later crashed into a roadside structure, and the impact proved fatal.
Following the incident, his mortal remains were brought to Chennai, where family members, close friends, colleagues and fans gathered to offer their final respects.
