New Delhi: As the grand Ram Temple consecration approaches, a fraudulent scheme targeting devotees for donation collections under the guise of supporting the construction has been exposed, prompting the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) to call for action. The VHP issued a warning on social media, cautioning people against falling victim to the scam.
VHP representative Vinod Bansal took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that a fake social media page called “Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Chhetra Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh,” equipped with a QR code, asks for donations from users, in the name of Ram Temple.
He also said that the issue has been brought to the attention of the Home Ministry and police chiefs in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
A VHP member from Ayodhya had a telephone conversation with the suspected fraudster.
“You know there is a struggle going on between the Muslim community and the Hindu community. The Muslim community is not allowing their temple to be built, so they are raising funds for their temple,” the fraudster added.
The VHP issued a video statement saying that they were recently informed of fraudulent activities attempting to dupe people in the name of Ram Mandir.
“Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Nyas has not authorised anyone to collect funds. I have written to the Home Ministry, Uttar Pradesh DGP and Delhi’s Commissioner of Police, seeking strict action so that people do not fall prey to such frauds. People need to be careful too,” he said. “This is an occasion for joy, we are sending out invitations. We will not accept any donation,” Bansal said in the video message.
