In a fresh escalation of cross-border tensions, Indian air defence systems were activated Monday evening following sightings of red streaks and explosions over Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, as Pakistani drones entered Indian airspace. The incursion triggered a blackout in the area and swift defensive action from Indian forces.
Army sources confirmed that a limited number of drones crossed into the Samba sector and were promptly engaged by India’s air defence systems.
Speaking on the incident, NewsMobile Editor-in-Chief Saurabh Shukla termed the drone activity a “clear violation” of the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. “Breaking the initial Indian assessment — Pakistan sent drones inside our territory post-ceasefire. Possibly to assess our air defence capabilities. This is an attempt at provocation and harassment of our troops. So far, no payloads have been detected,” Shukla stated.

He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, calling it a “grave provocation” in diplomatic and strategic terms. “This is not just a routine breach; it’s a calculated move. Even if the Army maintains a restrained posture publicly, the implications are serious. We are a responsible country, and our response will be measured — but make no mistake, we will respond,” Shukla added.

Earlier today, the DGMO-level talks between the two countries were held. The two countries reached an understanding on Saturday on stoppage of firing and military action following a call made by Pakistan DGMO to his Indian counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai.
The drone activity comes on the heels of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Army on May 7, which targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was carried out in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 people lost their lives in one of the deadliest attacks in recent years.
