Who Is Adaso Kapesa?
Inspector Adaso Kapesa is the first woman from Manipur to join the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) that protects the prime minister. Adaso Kapesa is from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and serves with the 55th Battalion in Pithoragarh. She is also the first woman ever to be part of the team directly responsible for the prime minister’s safety during his official trips.
A Historic Appointment
Adaso Kapesa’s inclusion in the SPG, the elite force responsible for the Prime Minister’s security, marks a significant step toward gender diversity in India’s high-stakes security apparatus. The SPG, established in 1985 after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is renowned for its rigorous training and unparalleled professionalism. Kapesa, previously an Inspector (General Duty) with the 55th Battalion of the SSB in Pithoragarh, underwent gruelling commando training to earn her place in this prestigious unit. Her deployment, noted during PM Modi’s recent United Kingdom visit in July 2025, captured public attention when photographs of her standing vigilantly by the Prime Minister went viral, sparking widespread praise for women’s empowerment.
