New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday underscored the transformative impact of technological solutions developed during past editions of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH), praising them for addressing real-world challenges and benefiting people across the country.
Addressing the participants of the 7th edition of SIH 2024 via video conferencing, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to empowering youth and fostering innovation.
“For me, the vision of the youth is the mission of the government,” said PM Modi. “We are working tirelessly to provide whatever my youth need to shape the future of India. From bringing one lakh youth with no family history in politics into the political sphere to organizing platforms like the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue next month, we are creating avenues for young minds to contribute to a developed India.”

The Smart India Hackathon, organized by the Union Ministry of Education, has evolved into a key platform for students to collaborate with government and industry stakeholders in solving pressing issues through technology. PM Modi acknowledged that many innovations from the past seven editions are actively improving lives across the country. “These hackathons have solved many big problems and are proving to be highly useful,” he said.
During the hour-long interaction with participants, the Prime Minister encouraged young innovators to continue their problem-solving endeavors. He also highlighted the importance of the recently approved One Nation One Subscription scheme, which aims to provide nationwide access to scholarly research articles and journals. “This initiative ensures no youth in India is deprived of important information. With an allocation of Rs. 6,000 crore for 2025, 2026, and 2027, this unique scheme will support young innovators and researchers,” PM Modi stated.
The Prime Minister also lauded the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for nurturing a scientific mindset among students and promoting innovation. “Today, the world recognizes India’s strength as our youth power, our tech power. My government is committed to equipping this generation with every resource and tool they need,” he emphasized.
Asserting the government’s layered approach to educational and technological initiatives, PM Modi said, “We are working on different layers for different age groups, ensuring everyone gets a chance to understand and learn.”
