FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the picture is being shared with an incorrect narrative.
On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found that the yellow van belongs to OAMTC. The yellow van is a ’Mobile Power Bank’ used by OAMTC as a roadside assistance that charges electric vehicles that run out of battery on the road.
The picture was uploaded by OAMTC on their Facebook page on May 29, 2019, with the caption, ” If the battery doesn’t make it anymore, we’ll bring you fresh juice! Our “Mobile Power Bank” for e-cars has successfully completed its first test in practice. Already after about 20 minutes, the electric Mercedes had enough power to easily bring our member to the next charging station. We think this is pretty electrifying!”
Contacted by NewsMobile, OAMTC clarified that it’s a mobile power bank for e-cars which consists of several lithium cells and can deliver electricity for about twelve kilometers to an electric vehicle.
” The photo was actually misinterpreted: This is not a petrol generator but a mobile power bank for e-cars. The “Mobile Electric Vehicle Charger” consists of several lithium cells and can deliver electricity for about twelve kilometers to an electric vehicle. This takes about 15 minutes and in most cases allows a trip to the nearest charging station, ” Alexander Lueger Online Editor, ÖAMTC told NewsMobile.
He also added that the vehicle, however, is still a standard Diesel-powered. But in Vienna, e-bikes are being used.
“The breakdown vehicle is not (yet!) an e-car (it’s one of our standard Diesel breakdown vehicles we use all over Austria). Although in the city of Vienna we are already on the road with e-bikes and at the moment are repeatedly testing E-Cars in our carpool, ” he added.
