Fact Check: 2014 News Clipping Of HDFC’s Deepak Parekh Supporting BJP Manifesto Erroneously Linked To 2024 LS Elections

Date:

A newspaper claiming to show comments of former chairman of HDFC (now HDFC Bank), Deepak Parekh, on BJP’s election manifesto is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim it to be about the manifesto released by the BJP for the 2024 elections.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:
Deepak Parekh, Chairman HDFC, on BJP election manifesto ✌

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

With a keyword search, the NM team identified a tweet by Amit Malviya, the in-charge of BJP’s national information & technology department, dated April 8, 2014. The image in the tweet matches with the viral post suggesting that Parekh might have given the comments on the 2014 elections manifesto by BJP.

The same clipping was also posted by a few unverified accounts in April 2014 as well. This confirms that the comment cannot be linked to the ongoing elections.

We also came across a news article by Deepak Parekh on April 10, 2014 about BJP’s manifesto. The article seems to be in same lines as the comments in the clipping. This proves that the news clipping is old.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming HDFC’s chairman Deepak Parekh supported BJP’s 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto, is false.
