A disturbing video showing a young man being forced into a coffin by a group of men is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim it depicts a recent incident in Sudan. It’s also alleged that the man’s only “crime” was being from a country rich in gold and minerals coveted by foreign powers like the UAE.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
A Reverse Image Search reveals that the video is not from Sudan but South Africa. According to a BBC report, dated August 25, 2017, the incident took place in August 2016, when two white farmers — Theo Martins Jackson and William Oosthuizen — assaulted a Black labourer, Victor Mlotshwa, and forced him into a coffin. The case drew widespread outrage and reignited discussions about racial violence in South Africa.

The CNN later reported that Jackson and Oosthuizen were found guilty and sentenced to 14 and 11 years in prison, respectively. Meanwhile, Deutsche Welle, a media outlet from Germany, has confirmed that the attack occurred in Mpumalanga province, South Africa.

Thus, we can conclusively say that a 2016 Video from South Africa has been misrepresented as a recent horrifying incident in Sudan.
