A video circulating on social media depicts a man reciting the azan (Islamic call to prayer) from a damaged mosque, with the claim that it was recorded in Morocco following a powerful earthquake.
The deadliest earthquake in decades with 6.8-magnitude struck Morocco on September 8, 2023, killing over 2,700 people, according to CNN.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “In Morocco 🇲🇦 the Masjid is broken, yet the adhan continues. Allahu Akbar”.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a Twitter account carrying the same viral video, dated July 15, 2017, with a caption: “Thus, the call to prayer is raised on the ruins of a mosque in Mosul. Raise your ears, for He is the one who created confusion. He will show you one day in the dusty environment”.
We also found the same video uploaded on Facebook, dated June 27, 2017, with a caption: “An elderly man making adhan in a broken mosque in war-torn Syria. They can take everything from us but they can’t take our Iman. (SHARE)”.
Though we could not verify the exact location and time of the viral video, it is evident that it has been on Internet since 2017, and NOT related to the recent Morocco earthquake.
