A video circulating on social media claims that a junior government employee in Aligarh spat into a senior judicial officer’s water glass. The 80-second footage shows a man pouring water into a glass and then spitting into it, seemingly unaware of the recording.
The viral video, with a voice-over, alleges that this incident took place in a judicial office in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, suggesting that a judge was targeted in what is being described as “thook jihad”.
The post has been shared with a caption: What will the judge do now? New video of Thook Jihad (of July 2024) from Aligarh Court. Court judges also became victims of spit jihad.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.
Running the viral video through Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a report in The Times of India, dated May 29, 2018, featuring the same video.
Titled “UP man spitting in water meant for boss”, the article indicates that the incident occurred in Aligarh, where a man serving water to a female civil judge was caught spitting into it. Unaware of the camera, the accused, Vikas Gupta, a 4th class employee, opened a bottle, filled a glass with water, and spat into it. He was immediately suspended after the incident came to light. The same report was also found on another website, StoryPick, dated the same day.
The Aligarh police has confirmed on their official X account that the video is misleading and dates back to 2018. “Please do not post misleading information without verifying the facts. The above case is from 2018, and necessary action had been taken against the peon by the concerned department at that time.”
