FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Performing a Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords, we traced a Facebook page with the same viral video, dated December 20, 2018.

The longer version of the same viral video was also carried by a YouTube page on January 7, 2018, with a caption: “Acche din aagaye.. 20 January se bank charges mein bhari bharkam izafa zee business ki report.”

But a tweet by former finance secretary Rajiv Kumar, dated January 10, 2018, stated that no such proposals to discontinue free services on January 20 had been made. He called this information “rumours,” and added that no blanket rule had been imposed.

In another tweet dated January 10, 2018, Kumar tweeted a press release from Indian Banks’ Association, which also clarified that a blanket removal is neither moved by other banks nor such a thing is contemplated”.

The Reserve Bank of India issued several new rules requiring banks to renew locker agreements with their customers. Changes to the National Pension System (NPS) and credit card rewards have also been announced, but we did not find any rules that were similar to those mentioned in the viral video.

Thus, an old video is falsely shared as recent changes in baking rules.
