Fact Check: 2019 Image Of Mamata Banerjee Serving Tea Goes Viral As Recent

A picture of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee making tea at a stall is being widely circulated on social media, linking to the ongoing 2024 General elections.

The post reads: ओब होम भी पोरधानमौत्री बोन के मानेगा…। हम्बा, हम्बा जुम्बा जुम्बा (English version: Now even I will become prime minister.)

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact-checked the image, and found it to be old.

Running the viral post through Reverse Image Search, our team found the same image in a news report by The Indian Express, dated August 22, 2019, with a headline: Chai pe Mamata: Watch Bengal CM Banerjee makes, serves tea during village visit.

As per the report, Mamata Banerjee prepared and served tea to people while visiting Digha in West Bengal.

The same image was also shared on the verified Facebook page of All India Trinamool Congress Uttar Kolkata Lok Sabha on August 21, 2019, with a caption: “Hon’ble CM at a roadside tea shop at Duttapukur village in Digha while returning back to Kolkata after administrative meeting for Purba Medinipur district.”

Thus, it is clear that the picture in circulation is old.
