A video of few people beating a cop is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that it is a recent incident in Bihar.

Putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we found the same video uploaded by the YouTube channel Live Hindustan on September 6, 2020. The title of the video reads: Bihar news: पटना में शराब तस्करों ने दारोगा को पीटा, वीडियो वायरल (English translation: Bihar news: Liquor smugglers beat up constable in Patna, video viral)
The same incident had been reported by News 18 Bihar and Zee Bihar Jharkhand in September 2020. According to the Zee report, the incident took place in Mithapur near Patna junction, where the liquor mafia attacked police. The reports credited the video to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Lalu Yadav had tweeted the video on September 6, 2020. And in 2020, an alliance government of JD(U) and BJP was in power in Bihar.
Thus, it is clear that the video is old.
According to a report by TOI, dated August 2022, ‘In 2015, the JD(U) fought in alliance with parties like Congress and RJD. However, in 2017, Nitish walked out of the alliance and formed a new government with BJP. Then in 2020, the JD(U) and BJP contested together and won with BJP emerging as the single largest party.’
In August 2022, Nitish Kumar broke the alliance with BJP and got back with RJD to form a Mahagathbandhan government.
Hence, it is clear that the video is old and is being circulated with misleading claims.
