NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Performing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a news report in News 18, dated December 27, 2021, carrying the same viral image. According to the report, “In the action taken by GST Intelligence, ₹257 crore in cash and jewellery was recovered from the house of Uttar Pradesh businessman Piyush Jain. Now, the Central investigation agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) seems to be tightening its noose against this billionaire perfume businessman.”
On December 25, 2021, a Navbharat Times report stated that the I-T Department conducted raids at the residence and premises of Piyush Jain. The operation spanned locations in Mumbai, Kannauj, and Kanpur — commencing simultaneously at all three places, is anticipated to last for two to three days… Also, teams in Mumbai, Kanpur and Kannauj executed raids on Piyush’s hideouts. As of now, the team in Kanpur has recovered ₹177 crore, while in Kannauj ₹4 crore has been confiscated.
This viral photo had also been uploaded on the official YouTube channels of TV9 Bharatvarsh, India TV, and Live Hindustan in December 2021. In all these reports, the image was identified as depicting a raid on the premises of UP businessman Piyush Jain.
Thus, it is confirmed that an old image is falsely linked to recent raids in Karnataka.
