Fact Check: 2021 Video Of Angry Farmers Burning BJP Flags & Vehicles Viral As Recent


A video showing angry farmers burning the vehicle and flags during the BJP campaign in Ellenabad, Haryana, has gone viral on social media. Many users claim that the agitated farmers are blocking BJP workers from entering their villages to campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption: 
“कल एलेनाबाद में किसानों ने भाजपा की प्रचार गाड़ी से उतारकर उनके झंडे जलाए”
नाराज किसानो ने BJP,JJP नेताओं की अपने गाँवो में एंट्री बंद कर रखी है, अब उनके झंडो की भी गाँव मे आने पर रोक लगाई..👊

(English translation: Yesterday in Ellenabad, farmers took off BJP’s campaign vehicle and burned their flags.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified a Facebook post on an unverified account, dated October 7, 2021. Here, the caption confirms that the video is from Ellenabad, but given that it was posted in 2021, it cannot be linked to the ongoing protests. 

Also, a YouTube video on the channel named खास हरियाणा Khas Haryana — a local news organisation, dated October 7, 2021, carries some visuals that match with the viral clip. But the date of its posting predates the ongoing events in the country. 

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming angry farmers recently burnt BJP flags in Ellenabad, is false.
