Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified a tweet, dated July 12, 2022, on the official handle of Al Arabiya-English.
The video in the tweet matches the viral clip, and the caption informs that the incident happened in Al-Mughassil when members of an Asian family drowned after they crossed the safety barrier.
Conducting a Google Keyword Search, our team spotted an Arabic news article in Erem News, a news website from UAE, dated July 12, 2022, and titled: عُمان.. العثور على شخصين من أسرة جرفتها الأمواج في ظفار (English translation: Oman.. Two people from a family were found washed up in Dhofar).
According to the news article, an Asian family was washed away by the tidal waves in the Al-Mughsail region in Oman. It further informs that the Omani police announced that two people from the family of five were found washed up by the sea, and the authorities were still looking for the remaining three members.
A similar article had also been published on Al Arabiya’s website as well.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming two women drowned due to high tidal waves in Mumbai’s Bandstand, is false.
