Fact Check: 2023 Image Of Nitish Kumar-Mamata Banerjee Meet Goes Viral As Recent

A picture showing Nitish Kumar giving bouquet to Mamata Banerjee is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim that Nitish Kumar met Banerjee recently to join the INDIA Alliance after the Lok Sabha election results.

A Facebook user posted the viral post (archive link) with the following caption:

খেলা শুরু হয়ে গেছে.. আজ দিল্লিতে দিদির সঙ্গে দেখা করলেন নীতিশ কুমার I 😮 (English translation: The game has begun… Nitish Kumar met sister in Delhi today. 😮)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

If Nitish Kumar had planned to join the INDIA alliance, it would have made major news immediately. But on June 9, 2024, Modi took oath as the prime minister for the 3rd term with the support of JDU, TDP, and other regional parties.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, the NM team traced a news report in NDTV, dated June 22, 2023. The image in the article matches with the viral picture, informing that it was clicked when Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with Nitish Kumar at Patanor Circuit House to build opposition unity against BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The report was also tweeted on the official handle of All India Trinamool Congress on the same day with the viral image, confirming that it has nothing to do with the recent Lok Sabha election results.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming Nitish Kumar met Mamata Banerjee after the election results to join the INDIA Aalliance, is false.
