FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be false.
Performing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a Reuters album, dated November 22, 2023, with a title: “All the cemeteries are full: Palestinians buried in a mass grave in Gaza.”
The description of the photo indicates that a man organising the bodies of victims killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The bodies were transferred from Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, located in the northern Gaza Strip, to Khan Younis City in the south, as the cemeteries in Gaza City had reached capacity.
Additionally, we found an extended video of the same incident on Al Jazeera’s Facebook page, dated November 22, 2023. The drone footage depicts the mass grave in Gaza from November 2023 as seen in the viral image. According to Al Jazeera the video shows 111 Palestinians were buried in southern Gaza, with all the victims remaining unidentified.
Another video featuring the same mass grave as seen in the viral image was uploaded to Sky News’ YouTube channel. The description states, “A truck brought 111 bodies from various areas in Gaza, including Al Shifa Hospital, to be buried in a mass grave in Khan Younis. According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, more than 11,000 Palestinians have been killed, with two-thirds of them being women and children.”
Thus, the viral image is, in fact, the Gaza mass grave from 2023 , NOT the Mexican grave discovery.
