A post related to the Hindu scripture Ramcharitramans is going viral on social media, claiming that it will be recognised as a national scripture. And condemning the scripture will be punishable under the National Security Act (NSA).
A Facebook user shared this post and wrote, “Congratulations, Shri Ramcharitra Manas” will become a national text. NSA will be charged with treason for condemning it.. Jai Shri Ram.”

Had Ramcharitramans become the national text, it would have been reported by several media outlets. But our team could not find any credible news corroborating the viral claim.
However, with an open Google keyword search, our team identified a statement given by religious leader Tulsi Peethadhishwar ‘Padmavibhushan’ Rambhadracharya of Chitrakoot. According to a report by News 18, dated November 4, 2023, during a katha (story reading) in Bagaha, he said that Ramcharitmanas will very soon become the national scripture and there will be a case of treason for condemning it. He gave this statement after Patna administration denied permission to his proposed katha programme at Gandhi Maidan. Here, he has also targeted Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar.
On November 3, Jagran had reported that he gave this statement on the fourth day of Shri Ram Katha at Arjun Vikram Shah Stadium, in Ramnagar block of West Champaran in Bihar. Jagadguru had also mentioned that he would now narrate Ram Katha in Gandhi Maidan only when saffron waves & lotus (BJP) blooms in Bihar.
Nowhere in the report, the government has declared Ramcharitmanas as a national scripture. Thus, it is confirmed that the viral post is fake.
