Amid the escalating tension between India and Pakistan, social media is flooded with misinformation. Another such message that is circulating online urges people to turn off their location because drones are being used to detect areas with high population density. The post says that the government and the defence personnel have issued the advisory.
The message reads: “Hello everyone, We’ve received an official email from the faculty with an important advisory: please turn off the location services on your phones immediately.
It has been brought to our attention that drones are being used to detect areas with high population density, and they can home in on active location signals. For your safety and privacy, make sure to disable location services on your device until further notice. Stay safe. Advisory is being issued in defence personnel groups! Received from a friend whose Father is in the Army.”
