An image claiming to show Iranian para-athlete Beit Sayah Sadegh allegedly showcasing the flag of ISIS after securing the gold in the men’s javelin throw event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim his medal was taken away because of this act and was awarded to the Indian Paralympian Navdeep.
A Facebook user posted the viral post (archive link) with the following caption:
Iranian Athlete openly displayed the flag of Jihad used by ISIS and other terrorist organisations in the F41 Paralympics 2024 final. That’s why Iranian athlete Beit Sayah Sadegh has been disqualified. As a result, the silver medal has been upgraded to gold.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found the claims to be false.
Searching with keywords on Google, the NM team found numerous reports on Sadegh’s controversial disqualification. According to a news report from Fox Sports, the 37-year-old athlete was stripped of his gold medal after receiving two yellow cards during the event. As per International Paralympic Committee (IPC) rules, athletes are prohibited from displaying any non-state flags.
The flag in question was that of Hazrat Umm al-Banin. Displaying the religious flag violated the International Paralympic Committee’s regulations, resulting in a second yellow card and his eventual disqualification.
According to a news report from Shafaqna, a Shia news association website, we can see that the flag matches the one that Sadegh unfurled.
We found similar news reports in Times Now and Sports Bible as well.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming Iranian para-athlete Beit Sayah Sadegh got disqualified for showcasing ISIS flag after winning, is fake.
