Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 22-23, engaging in bilateral discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other global leaders. Following the summit, a video began circulating online showing world leaders gathered for a group photograph, with PM Modi noticeably absent. This clip has fuelled claims that Putin excluded the Indian PM from the photo-op, with some calling it an “international insult”.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:
Photo khichane ke liye modi ji ko koi nahi bulaya 😭International be ejjatai 😭Bhakts now: Boycott brics
(English: Nobody called Modi ji for a photo. 😭International be ejjatai 😭Bhakts now: Boycott brics)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Conducting a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team found the clip on the official X account of news agency ANI, dated October 24, with a description: “Russia: EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar with Heads of delegations at Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre, at the 16th BRICS Summit in BRICS Plus format.”
Further keyword searches led us to a news report from Hindustan Times, confirming that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented Prime Minister Modi at the BRICS Plus event in Kazan on October 24. The event, attended by Russia’s Vladimir Putin, China’s Xi Jinping, and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saw Jaishankar leading the Indian delegation, as Modi had returned to India on October 23 after the main summit sessions.
Additionally, a video posted on ANI’s X account on October 23 showed PM Modi boarding an aircraft with the caption: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi emplanes for Delhi after attending the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.” This indicates that Modi was not in Russia when the BRICS Plus event took place on October 24.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show Putin did not invite the PM Modi for the BRICS group photo, is false.
