Fact Check: Did Singapore Conduct A COVID-19 Autopsy? Here’s The Truth

Date:

India recorded a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases with active infections rising to 4,302 and seven new deaths reported. States like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Gujarat are on alert, although hospitalisation rates remain low.

Meanwhile, a viral post claims Singapore’s Health Ministry defied WHO protocols by conducting a COVID-19 autopsy, allegedly finding the disease is caused by a bacterium exposed to radiation, not a virus. It further claims Singapore called COVID-19 a “global hoax” and switched to treating patients with aspirin instead of the WHO-recommended methods.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be False.

Searching with relevant keywords, the NM team detected media reports by The Straits Times and Channel News Asia, dated June 4, 2025. Citing the Ministry of Health, Singapore, both reports categorically debunked the viral claim.

According to the reports, the viral message alleging that Singapore was the first country to conduct an autopsy on a COVID-19 patient and that the disease was found to be caused by a bacterium, not a virus, initially circulated in 2021, has resurfaced again.

Following the reports, a press release issued by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH), dated June 3, 2025, states that the MOH addressed two circulating pieces of misinformation, one concerning the alleged COVID-19 autopsy and the other related to mandatory vaccinations.

Regarding the viral claim, the ministry firmly refuted the claim, saying: “This is false. As clarified by the Ministry then, Singapore has not performed such an autopsy, and it is also not true that COVID-19 is caused by a bacterium.”

The same clarification was also issued by Singapore’s Ministry of Health on its official Facebook page back in 2021, when the false claim first began circulating.

Hence, the viral claim that Singapore discovered COVID-19 is caused by a bacterium through an autopsy is absolutely false. And it has been also repeatedly debunked by official sources.
