As five Indian states – Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand – gear up for upcoming assembly elections, a video is widely being shared on social media in which a person can be seen drinking and dancing.
The video is being shared with a caption claiming that the man in video is a BJP leader named Anil Upadhayay.
A social media user shared the video with a caption: “#बीजेपी_विधायक बेटी बचाओ बेटी पटाओ का विकास करते हुए #भाजपा_ख़त्म.” (English translation: BJP MLA while doing development in Beti bachao beti patao scheme.)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.
On breaking the video into multiple keyframes and doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the same video was published by a YouTube channel Desh India Live on October 16, 2019. The video is being shared with the caption that reads, “BJP Leader Yogesh Patil in Bangkok.”
We searched for ‘Yogesh Patil BJP’ and found that he is a politician in Maharashtra and belongs to Shiv Sena. He has served as MLA of Bhiwandi from 2004 to 2009 in Maharashtra. We compared the screenshot of the viral video with an image of Yogesh Patil available online but could not find any resemblance between them.
We also checked My Neta.info and found that Anil Kumar Upadhyay contested in Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections in 2012 and 2007 as an independent candidate. We did NOT find any leader by the name of Anil Upadhyay in BJP.
This is not the first time that an image or a video has gone viral in the name of Anil Upadhyay. NewsMobile has debunked similar claims earlier which can be seen below;

While we were not able to verify the identity of the person in the viral video, we can evidently conclude that he isn’t any BJP leader named Anil Upadhyay.
