A widely circulated image on social media claims to show the Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif, with masculine features, sparking discussions about her appearance. Ever since Khelif won gold medal in the Women’s 66 kg boxing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, she has become the subject of discussions surrounding her identity.

NewsMobile fact-checked the picture in question, and found it to be AI-generated.
A closer analysis revealed several inconsistencies, including a distorted face on the right side of the image, which further fuelled doubts about its authenticity.
Running the picture through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found the same image in an X post shared by the account ‘MidJourney Prompts’, dated August 24, 2024.
The account’s description explicitly states that all images posted are AI-generated.
Checking the viral image through the AI-detection tool — Hive Moderation — it indicated 96.3% of the image digitally manipulated.
Based on the above findings, we can conclusively determine that the image in question is AI-generated.
