A video circulating online claims to show Muslims in Bangladesh raising Pakistani flags and chanting pro-Pakistan slogans amid the unrest in the country.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Real Face of Students Movement in Bangladesh: Bengali Muslims with Pakistani flags chanting ‘Direct Action’.”

The viral clip shows signs for Lahore Tikka House, Burger House, and Desi Burger in the background. A quick search on Google Maps confirms that these establishments are in Toronto, Canada. Specifically, Lahore Tikka House is prominently seen in the video, and the other shops are also situated in the same area, confirming that the video was filmed in Toronto.
Running the Reverse Image Search on Google, the NM team identified a similar video shared by DJ Mian on Instagram, dated August 25, 2023. This video, recorded in the same Toronto location, shows celebrations of Pakistan’s Independence Day. Several other similar videos were also found on the artist’s profile, all pointing to the same event. None of these videos has featured Bangla slogans heard in the viral clip.

The slogans heard in the viral video, “Bhuru kaata Pamela, aar korish na jhamela…” (English translation: “O eyebrowless Pamela, don’t create a mess anymore. You are Pakistan’s Khaleda, better go to Pakistan.” These slogans have long been used by supporters of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina’s party, to mock former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia of Bangladesh. A video report from May 31, 2018, also features the same slogans.
So, the video does not show Muslims in Bangladesh raising Pakistani flags and chanting pro-Pakistan slogans. Instead, it depicts Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations in Toronto, added with a misleading audio track. Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral video is edited.
