Amid recent protests in Hyderabad over the deforestation of 400 acres in Gachibowli, near Hyderabad Central University (HCU), a video has gone viral on social media showing a JCB attempting to lift an elephant. Many users claim that the JCB is attacking the elephant, linking it to the ongoing Hyderabad protests.

A facebook user posted the video with a caption: हे भगवान ये कैसी प्रलय आ गई जीव जंतुओं को कैसे बेकद्री से मारा जा रहा है!इंसान इतना निर्दई क्यों हो गया है!अब तो दर्श दिखाओ भगवान

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be false.

Putting the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found a YouTube video, dated August 2, 2018, containing the same viral footage at the 06:48 timestamp.

As per the YouTube video, the visuals depict an elephant that was attacked by another tusker in Horowpothana, Sri Lanka. A team of wildlife officers administered medication to treat the animal’s wounds, but unfortunately, it succumbed to injuries.

Thus, we can conclude by saying that the video claiming to show an Elephant being attacked in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli forest is false.
