A photo of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dining with his family at a restaurant is being widely shared on social media, linking it to the mourning period following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It’s claimed that Gandhi and his family travelled to Vietnam during the period of national mourning.
Manmohan Singh, a veteran Congress leader and India’s longest-serving Prime Minister, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. His contributions to the country included spearheading landmark economic reforms during his tenure as finance minister and later as prime minister.
The viral image has been shared on Facebook with a caption: “Antonio’s family mourning the demise of former PM Manmohan Singh ji in Vietnam”.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
A Reverse Image Search of the viral photo revealed that it was used in an article by Outlook Traveller, dated December 23, 2024. The article identified the location as Kwality Restaurant, Connaught Place, Delhi.
The same photo had been shared by Rahul Gandhi on his official Instagram account on December 22, 2024, with a caption: “Family lunch at the iconic Kwality restaurant”.

Moreover, Gandhi’s family lunch occurred on December 22, four days before Singh’s demise on December 26. Following Singh’s death, the Union government declared a seven-day mourning period from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025.
Thus, it is confirmed that the viral claims linking Rahul Gandhi’s family lunch to the mourning period for Manmohan Singh are false.
