Fact Check: Minor Accused In Pune Porsche Crash Fictitiously Linked With Rap Video

Date:

The nation was shaken by a tragic incident in Pune on May 19. Two engineers — Anish Awdhiya and Ashwini Koshta — lost their lives in an accident reportedly caused by a speeding Porsche driven by 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal, son of Pune’s real estate developer Vishal Agarwal. Amidst this, a video of a boy rapping about the incident has gone viral on social media. Many users claim that the boy is accused Vedant Agarwal.

The lyrics of the rap mocking the accident goes, “Kuch sunoge, karke baithe main nashe in my Porsche, saamne aaya couple mere ab woh hai neeche sound so cliche, sorry gaadi chag gayi aap pe, satra ki umra khoob paise mere baap pe,ek din main mil gaye mujhe bail, fir se dikhaunga sadak ka khel.”

The video is being shared with a caption: The accused in Pune hit-and-run case, Vedant Agarwal who killed 2 people, made a defiant rap song. “Got bail in one day, will show my game on the roads again….” No lessons learnt. He would never do this if he was not let off with writing an essay.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact checked the claim, and found it to be false.

Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found a similar video on an Instagram account, @cringistaan 2, with over 66k followers. In another Instagram account, @Cringistaan2_ , the influencer is identified himself as Aryan Neekhra. Closely analysing Aryan’s Instagram handle, we found several Instagram stories where he confirmed his presence in the viral video.

Additionally, he shared a video clip released by Vedant Agarwal’s mother, in which she dismissed her son’s involvement in the video and appealed to the police to ensure his safety in a rehabilitation home. We also found that Mirror Now had uploaded the same appeal video by the accused’s mother on their YouTube channel dated May 24, 2024.

A significant difference is marked in comparing the viral video with the profile picture of the influencer @Cringistaan (given below).

Lastly, media reports from The Hindu, Free Press Journal, and Newslaundry have confirmed that the boy seen in the video is not the 17-year-old accused Vedant Agarwal. They have identified the boy behind the viral rap video as Aryan Dev Neekhra from Madhya Pradesh, currently residing in Delhi.

The report by Newslaundry further adds that Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has promised to take action against the content creator behind the video, saying: “We are definitely going to take action against the person who made that video. It’s ongoing, and soon we will get hold of him.”

Hence, it is evident that the boy behind the viral rap video is not the main minor accused in the Pune Porsche hit-and-run case.
