Fact Check: Claim of Police Action Against Fans Booing Hardik Pandya at Wankhade Stadium During IPL 2024 Is Fabricated

Date:

Cricketer Hardik Pandya is facing massive flak for leaving Gujarat Titans and replacing Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians skipper. Against the backdrop, many users on social media claim that fans will be removed from the Wankhede Stadium, and arrested if they boo Hardik Pandya during IPL 2024 match.

One of the posts reads: “Security to arrest fans who troll Hardik Pandya at Wankhede Stadium in the IPL. Pandya has faced a lot of heat after being announced as MI captain.”

These posts can be seen here and here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim, and found it to be false.

With a keyword search on Google, we found several reports quoting the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) quashing the claims.

The Free Press Journal quoted the MCA official, saying, “There are rumours that MCA has instructed security against people who support Rohit or boo Hardik, this is incorrect and baseless rumours, no instructions have been given.” The report can be seen here.

As per the reports, the rumour was started after the Lokmat Times stated that MCA will be increasing the security and the crowd will be monitored throughout the match at the stadium. If anyone is caught or found booing or jeering Hardik Pandya will be removed from the stadium.

However, The MCA clarified that the claim was nothing but a rumour. More such reports can be seen here, here and here.

So, we can conclusively say that the claim of police action against fans booing Hardik Pandya at Wankhade stadium is false.
