FACT CHECK

NewsMobile found the claim to be false.

Searching for information about Congress’ promise to provide ₹8,500 per month to women from poor families, the NM team traced a report in The Economic Times, dated May 16, 2024, which carried a video in which Priyanka Gandhi Vadra spoke about Congress’ pledge of ₹8,500 per month to the eldest woman in every Indian household. According to the report, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reiterated the INDIA Bloc’s promise of ₹1,00,000 per year to the eldest woman in each household if voted to power in 2024 during a rally in Raebareli.

Another report in Money Control, dated June 6, 2024, states that hundreds of Muslim women gathered at the Congress office in Lucknow on June 5, seeking guarantee cards during the election campaign. Although several videos of women in queues with forms hoping for the ₹8,500 stipend have gone viral, there is no report mentioning any woman’s death due to standing for compensation.

Additionally, a tweet on the official X handle of Amethi Police, dated June 8, 2024, denies any such incident, clarifying that there is no news of any woman’s death near the Congress office. It has also appealed to the public not to spread misleading news.

Therefore, it is evident that the viral post claiming the death of a woman standing in a queue near the Congress office in Amethi while waiting for her monthly stipend is false.
