A video claiming Prime Minister Modi has announced three months of free mobile recharge for all users, starting at midnight, following Pakistan’s defeat, is widely circulating on social media. The post suggests that users can recharge their SIM cards — regardless of the telecom company — by clicking on a link in the profile bio.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral claim and found it to be false.
Conducting a keyword search on Google for any official announcements related to free recharges by the Modi government, the NM team could not find any credible news reports or government releases corroborating the claim.
But examining the link mentioned in the profile bio, we identified a website, earnkd. in, which detailed various recharge methods. In the middle of the page, users were prompted to click another link to proceed. Upon clicking, a countdown timer appeared asking users to wait for 9 seconds, after which they were redirected to another unrelated article on the same website. This is a common tactic used in clickbait scams to generate web traffic or potentially harvest user data.
Performing a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we traced the original video by CNN News18 YouTube channel, dated March 24, 2020. In the full video, PM Modi is addressing the nation about Covid-19 lockdown, not about any recharge scheme.
Additionally, a video clip of a news anchor used in the viral video was also found to be edited. The original footage, uploaded on May 07, 2025, by ABP News, shows the anchor reporting on ‘Operation Sindoor’. However, the viral version has an edited voiceover falsely linking it to the recharge claim.
So in conclusion, we can say that the claim about PM Modi announcing three months of free recharge after Pak defeat is fake. The website is clickbait, and the viral video has been digitally altered using unrelated clips from old news reports.
