Fact Check: Ratan Tata’s Dog ‘Goa’ Is Doing Fine; Viral Claim Is Fake

Days after the passing of industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, it is being claimed on social media that his beloved dog, Goa, also died just three days later.

The caption accompanying the image reads: “Sad news… Tatas pet Dog GOA DIES AFTER 3 DAYS ..OF HIS DEATH .. That’s why they say that dogs are more faithful to their masters than human beings!”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral claim, and found it to be false.

Searhing with relevant keywords, the NM team spotted an Instagram post, dated October 15, 2024, by Mumbai Police inspector Sudhir Kudalkar, who debunked the viral claim, stating it was false. Kudalkar confirmed that Ratan Tata’s close friend, Shantanu Naidu, clarified that ‘Goa is doing fine’.

“I spoke to Shantanu Naidu, close friend of Tata Ji, and he confirmed that Goa is in good health,” Kudalkar shared in his post. Known for his dedication to animal welfare, Kudalkar often cares for stray animals in his community.

So in conclusion, the viral claim that Ratan Tata’s dog, Goa, passed away shortly after his death is false.
