Fact Check: Old Image Of Former Punjab CM Channi & Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Viral With False Claims

An image in which a person can be seen touching the feet of Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib is viral on social media with a claim that the person is Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The image is being shared on Facebook with the caption, “ਇਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਸਾਬ ਦਾ ਰੁਤਬਾ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਸਾਬ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਹੱਥ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਵਉੱਚਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਬਾਦਲ ਐਨਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਦਿਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਜਰੂਰ ਫੋਟੋ ਸ਼ੇਅਰ ਕਰੋ”

(English translation: This is the status and respect of Jathedar Sahib. The Chief Minister of the state touches the feet of Jathedaar Sahib and shows the supremacy of Akal Takht Sahib Ji. If you ever see Sukhbir Badal respecting him so much, then do share the photo)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Doing a simple Reverse Image Search directed us to the official Facebook page of Ludhiana Times that carried the same image on December 9, 2021. The caption reads, “Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi met Giani Harpreet Singh Jathedar Singh of Sri Akal Takht and demanded that Sri Harmandir Sahib give rights to all the channels to broadcast Gurbani.”

We also found the viral picture uploaded on the Facebook page of Gurmeet Singh Secretary Sri Akal Takht Sahib Amritsar.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also shared an image of his meeting with Jathedar Giani Harpreet on 8 December 2021 from his official Twitter handle.

News about this meeting of former Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi and Giani Harpreet Singh can be read here

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old image is being falsely shared as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann touching the feet of Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
