FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post and found the claims to be misleading.
We started our investigation by running a Google Keyword Search related to the claim and landed on a news article titled: Rhythm Sangwan breaks Diana Iorgova’s 29-year-old record, published on May 13, 2023, in Times of India. The article informs that Sangwan did break a 29-year-old world record in the Shooting World Cup in Baku when she finished first in the qualification of junior women’s 25m pistol event by scoring 595 points. Given that the event was held in May 2023, it is clear that the news is old and is being re-shared now.

The article further informs that even after her record-breaking performance, she failed to win a second medal after finishing 8th in the final. A similar report was also published in Hindi in Jagran on May 13, 2023, corroborating the claims.
Finally, we checked whether Sangwan won any medals or broken any world records recently. Our search led us to a report published on August 20, 2023, in Sportskeeda around the ongoing ISSF World Championships 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Although the Indian women’s team did win a gold medal at the 25m pistol event, there was no mention of any individual achievement by Sangwan.

Also, it is worth noting that Sangwan broke the world record at the ISSF World Cup 2023, whereas the ongoing tournament is the ISSF World Championship 2023.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming Indian shooter Rhythm Sangwan broke the world record in the ongoing Shooting World Cup in Baku, is misleading.
