Following the recent political unrest and violence, Bangladesh is now grappling with severe floods, affecting millions and resulting in the loss of over 15 lives. Amid this crisis, a photo has surfaced on social media showing Muslims offering prayers while being submerged in water up to their shoulders. The viral image on social media claims that this flood situation in Bangladesh is indirectly linked to the recent attacks on Hindus, suggesting that it is a consequence of these events.
The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “इस समय बांग्लादेश में आई भयानक बाढ़ से हाल बेहाल। कर्म का फल मिलता है पर इतनी जल्दी मिलता है ये पहली बार देख रहा हूँ” (English version: See below.👇)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Doing a simple Reverse Image Search, the NM team came to know that the photo is not recent. It was taken on October 8, 2021, in Satkhira, a city near the Sundarban forest in Bangladesh. At that time, the area was severely impacted by floods, and the people shown in the image were praying in a mosque for relief from the disaster. The mosque collapsed a few days later due to the flooding.
This photograph was captured by Bangladeshi photographer Sharwar Hussain, who later shared it on his Instagram account on March 29, 2022, after it won second place in the ‘World Water Day Photo Contest’.

Thus, we can conclusively say that the 2021 viral photo of Muslims praying in a mosque for relief from the flood disaster has been misrepresented as recent in Bangladesh.
