FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found a video, dated August 16, 2011, uploaded on YouTube by BJP’s official account. The title of the video reads: “BJP Byte: Anna Hazare & Prime Minister”. This proves that the video is old.

We also found a news article by Economic Times, dated August 16, 2011, with a title: “BJP slams PM over conditions on Anna’s fast”. According to the article, political battle lines on Anna Hazare’s campaign were reinforced with the BJP (then in opposition) taking on the then UPA government for putting restrictions on his protest action.

In the video, then BJP president Nitin Gadkari was criticising former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Independence Day speech in which the latter had denounced hunger strikes amid the then anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the video in question is old and misleading.
