Following the deadly earthquake in Turkey which claimed over 30,000 lives, a dashcam video has surfaced on the internet which shows trembling vehicles claiming to be visuals of the recent earthquake in Turkey.
The caption in Hindi read: “तुर्की में एक कार के अंदर से लिया हुआ लाइव वीडियो”
(English translation: Live video taken inside a car in Turkey)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the video has been falsely linked to the recent quake in Turkey.
We extracted keyframes of the video through the InVid tool and put them through Reverse Image Search. The results led us to an unofficial website where the same video was uploaded. The caption in Persian suggested that the video in question captures the 9.2 magnitude earthquake in Japan.

Taking a cue, we used keywords with the Reverse Image Search and found an article dated May 12, 2022, which featured the same video. The article in Hebrew also suggested that the terrifying moments were captured from inside a car during the earthquake in Japan.
We further found the same video on YouTube posted on February 19, 2019. The frame showed the record time and date which was ‘2011’ suggesting the video was shot in 2011.

Hence, the above information establishes that the video is old and is not connected with the recent earthquake in Turkey which took place on February 06, 2023.
