On July 8, heavy and continuous rainfall led to release of more than 23,000 cusec water from the Bhakra Dam into Gobind Sagar Lake, while around 24,000 cusec water was released at the Nangal Dam, distributed across three locations in Himachal Pradesh.
Against this backdrop, a video showing a turbulent flow of muddy water in a river passing under a bridge is widely shared on social media claiming that these are the visuals of the Nangal Dam.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Oh my God — Nangal dam high alert”

Here’s the link to the above post.
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified a Facebook page carrying the same viral video, dated September 24, 2018, stating that this is from Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh.
Our team found the same video uploaded on the official Facebook page of DD News Himachal, dated September 23, 2018, with a caption: “Due to rise in the water level of Ravi river, the movement of vehicles was stopped on the sand bridge connecting several sub-divisions of Chamba district.”
In September 2018, heavy and unrelenting rains caused flash floods in Himachal Pradesh and other northern regions of India. Due to the rising water levels, traffic movement on the Baloo Bridge was suspended, as reported by The Times of India.
Another video also shows the Baloo bridge engulfed by surging waves of the Ravi river, despite being more than 200 kilometres away from the Nangal dam.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video is falsely shared as the impact of floods on the Nangal Dam in Himachal Pradesh.
