On April 30, PM Modi held a massive roadshow in Mysuru ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 10. He was on his seventh trip to Karnataka, where he also held three public meetings.
Against this backdrop, a video showing PM Modi drinking tea from a stall is widely shared on social media, claiming that it is amidst the election activities of the Karnataka legislative assembly.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “कर्नाटक दौरे में जब प्रधानमंत्री अचानक पहुंचे एक चाय वाले की दुकान पर” (English translation: When prime minister suddenly arrived at a tea shop during Karnataka tour)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords, we found the official YouTube channel of Narendra Modi carrying a clip similar to the viral video, dated March 4, 2022, with a caption: “Unforgettable moments from Kashi as PM Modi enjoys a hot cup of ‘chai’ at a tea stall!”
Several news articles had covered the same incident in March 2022. According to a video news report by ANI, “Prime Minister Modi on March 4 enjoyed a cup of tea at a stall during his roadshow that was held in his Lok Sabha Constituency Varanasi. He also paid tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya at Banaras Hindu University after his tea.”
We found the viral video uploaded on a verified YouTube channel ‘Street Food Mani’ on April 30, 2022, in which the tea vendor talks about the experiences he shared with PM Modi.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video of PM Modi drinking tea in Varanasi is falsely shared as that from Karnataka.
