FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check, and found it to be misleading.

Through the Google Reverse Image Search, the NM team spotted the same video uploaded by ETV Andhra Pradesh, dated August 8, 2020, with a title: “Several Arrested | for Transfer of Illegal Liquor Wearing Burqa | at Kurnool Dist.” In the same video, at around 38 seconds timestamp, one can clearly see seized liquor bottles.

The Joint Commissioner of Police, Vizag City, Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, also shared the facts about the video on ‘X‘ on August 16, 2020. He tweeted: “Facts# The burqa clad man in this video was found carrying liquor bottles illegally across state from Telangana to Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. Caught by Excise police, was reported on 7-8-2020 in Kurnool Taluka Police station. youtu.be/GFmCzzjU3-k Stop spreading misinformation.”

Bengaluru City Police also debunked the viral claim in 2022, when the same video was shared with another claim. They posted on their Facebook page, “Video claiming Karnataka police arresting burqa-clad agitators and 40 per cent of them being boys in women’s attire: True facts – Karnataka State Police FactCheck.”

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that an old video is being shared with a misleading claim.
