A video is being shared on social media claiming that Hindus are protesting against PM Modi in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The video is shared with a caption: Hey Raam..! It seems that Hindus have really woken up now. #KarnatakaElection2023 #40PercentSarkara.
Here’s the link to the above post.
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.
Running the Reverse Image Search with keywords, we found a similar picture in Sakal, a Marathi daily. The translated headline of the article reads: “Shiv Sena’s bullock cart morcha against petrol, diesel and gas price hike in Hingoli”.
According to the article, Shiv Sena MLA Santosh Bangar led the protest on February 5, 2021, demanding reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas.
But to our surprise, in the viral picture, a poster had images of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray and late Bal Thackeray. Based on this, with another keyword search, we found the video of the rally on YouTube, dated February 5, 2021.
The translated (via Google) title of the video reads: “Modi government is a thief sloganeering / Shiv Sena Hingoli district MLA Santosh Bangar on the road”.
Hence, we can conclusively say that it is an old video of Shiv Sena members protesting against the fuel price hike, NOT a recent one from Karnataka.
