An image of Congress leaders with Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina is being shared on social media. The post claims that Sonia Gandhi sitting at former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s place on a tour of Bangladesh.
The post reads: हम भारतीयों की याददाश्त इतनी छोटी है कि हम इस तस्वीर को भूला चुके हैं… यह तस्वीर तब की है जब मनमोहन सिंह प्रधानमंत्री थे और बांग्लादेश की विदेश यात्रा पर थे। प्रोटोकॉल के अनुसार बांग्लादेश की प्रधानमंत्री के साथ मनमोहन सिंह को बैठना था। लेकिन उस सीट पर जहां प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को बैठना था वहां एक मामूली संसद सदस्य एंटोनियो माइनो उर्फ सोनिया गांधी बैठी। फिर जब यह तस्वीर को लेकर हंगामा मचा भारत के विदेश मंत्रालय ने सफाई दिया और स्वीकार किया कि यह गलती है। सोचिए भारत के प्रधानमंत्री की तब क्या इज्जत होती थी और बांग्लादेश के लोग भी सोच रहे होंगे यह भारतीय कैसे-कैसे नमूनों को सत्ता में बिठा देते हैं जो गूंगे, बहरा के साथ साथ मानसिक गुलाम भी है। (English Translation: We Indians have so small memory that we forgot this picture… This picture is from when Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister and on a foreign trip to Bangladesh. According to the protocol, Manmohan Singh had to sit with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. But on the seat where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was supposed to sit, a simple Member of Parliament Antonio Maino alias Sonia Gandhi sat. The Indian foreign ministry had clarified and admitted that it was a mistake. Think what respect India’s prime minister was then and the people of Bangladesh must be wondering how these Indians put such samples in power who are dumb, deaf as well as mental slaves.)

The picture caption reads: “Interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh meet with Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina (Photo| Twitter/@INCIndia).”
The same picture with a caption (below) had been shared by the INC Twitter handle in 2019.
It should also be noted that Manmohan Singh served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. During his tenure, he paid a State visit to Bangladesh in September 2011.
Also, Sonia Gandhi served as the Congress party president from 1998 to 2017. In 2019, the Congress Working Committee elected Sonia Gandhi as an interim president following Rahul Gandhi’s resignation. And since October 26, 2022, Mallikarjun Kharge is the president of INC.
This proves that the picture was taken after the NDA Government came to power and hence, the claim attached to the viral picture is misleading.
