FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
The viral portion originates from Gandhi’s address at EIA University on October 2, 2025. At around the 1:00:48 mark, Gandhi was responding to a student’s question about job creation and modern career paths, including artificial intelligence and social media influence. In his response, he advised young people not to depend solely on influencer culture, emphasising that such trends are “temporary” and urging them to develop resilient, specialised skills that can sustain them in the long run. Gandhi illustrated this by saying that professionals, such as doctors, should cultivate unique capabilities that set them apart and can be marketed globally.
It was in this context that Gandhi remarked, “I have a big social media presence but would not rely on that thing. That thing is a lot of fluff.” His comment was meant to caution against overreliance on social media fame, not to discredit his own online presence or admit that his following was artificial.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral video misrepresents Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. He has not called his social media following fake or “fluff”.
