Date:

A video showing many people arguing with an elderly man over a woman is widely shared on social media, claiming that the elderly Muslim performed ‘halal’ and married his own granddaughter.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “साल्ला मौज_हब की खुबसूरती के क्या हीं कहने.. एक नमूना देखिए ये मजहब की खूबसुरती.. *अपने ही दादाजी से बीवी का हलाला करवाया। दादाजी को इतना मज़ा आया कि उन्होंने बीवी परमानेंटली ही दबा ली। दादाजी तो दादाजी, बीवी भी बेवफा निकली” (English translation, below.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we found a Bengali-language Facebook page carrying the same viral video on July 8, 2023. Though the camera angle in this video is entirely different from that of the viral video, all other elements in the video remain consistent. Notably, the segment corresponding to the viral video can be observed at the timestamp of 5 minutes and 56 seconds.

According to the video caption, it is a fictional play aimed at portraying the realities of society.

We also found the same video uploaded on a YouTube channel on November 25, 2022, stating that the video is only for entertainment purposes.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral video is edited.
